What We’re Reading and Watching
Currently reading The Family Firm by Emily Oster for my non-fiction morning coffee book and it’s so interesting! If we apply business decision techniques to our families, can we make better and more thoughtful decisions? I thought the section on sitting down with your spouse to make a family mission statement was so interesting and she also shares a lot of data on the effect of sleep, nutrition, starting kids in school a year later to help you make decisions that have a big impact on your family. -E
Glennon Doyle’s podcast We Can Do Hard Things is like a warm cup of tea-I don’t know why her voice sounds so cozy to me, but listening to the podcast feels like a hug. I don’t need hugs all the time, but when you’re in the mood for some life affirmations, it hits just the right spot. -E
I loved this post from Grace Atwood about her “lack of stamina” and the episode of her podcast Bad on Paper with Anne Helen Petersen about Burnout and why women our age are so affected by it. I feel like so many of my friends are in this place right now and it’s reassuring (and maybe also a little bit depressing) to know that other people are feeling that way! - D
What We’re Buying
I ran out of my Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen recently and was about to have a panic attack because I had just gotten my face zapped at the dermatologist and was under strict instructions to wear sunscreen at all times. I remembered that I had gotten the Sunday Riley Light Hearted Sunscreen in a subscription box, so I used it every day last week and really like it! It’s a mineral sunscreen but it has a slightly pink tint, which is very cute and keeps it from having a whiteish cast like other mineral sunscreens (at least on me). It has antioxidants and turmeric and protects from blue light glow, plus it’s light enough to wear under makeup and didn’t clog my pores. I’m not sure if it can replace Unseen Sunscreen in my heart, but I do really like it! -E
I want a full fall uniform from Alex Mill! So into the skirts, sweaters, and this jacket. I’m also highly considering adding these Mary Jane flats as well, but I’m not totally sure that I can pull them off… - E
I’m going to a black tie optional wedding next weekend and decided to treat myself to a new dress for it. I ordered this gold number from Dress the Population, and it’s honestly even prettier and more sparkly in person than it looked in the photos online. I’m excited to get dressed up and dance in it! - D
What We’re Making
In an attempt to get myself to eat a healthy lunch and not just graze all afternoon, I’ve gotten back on the soup making bandwagon. First up was the Half-Baked Harvest Spicy Peanut Soup-it was a little intense for me, so I ended up adding a bunch of spinach to it, which lightened it up just enough. -E
