Fast and Fun Fall Reads

We’re in full fall mode here-apple picking, sports activities and getting into the back the school rhythm. It’s the time of year that feels very family and community oriented-whether you’re a parent at back to school night or single and watching college football with friends or family-so books about life in the suburbs gone wrong are the perfect pick. I inhaled both of these books in just a few days and loved them! A scandalous glimpse into a world that seems perfect on the surface is always fun, and these neighborhoods with their book clubs and community boards and immaculately groomed families might seem perfect, but there’s a lot more lurking behind closed doors.

The Neighbor’s Secret by L. Alison Heller

The book club at Cottonwood Estates bring together ladies of all ages and has the scoop on the hottest gossip in town. But when a vandal starts to target the neighborhood, it brings some older scandals to light and may bring down the picture perfect life of more than one family. The women try to figure out who the vandal might be, cope with parenting issues, and argue over who’s in charge of drinks at the next neighborhood club, while undercurrents of danger and secrets swirl around them. I loved the perspective of the women of different ages and different issues ranging from parenting teens with attitudes to covering up some serious crimes.

Eliza Starts a Rumor by Jane L. Rosen

When Eliza moved out to the Hudson Valley as new mother, she was full of hope and started a successful online bulletin board to connect with the ladies of the area. Fast forward sixteen years and she’s having trouble leaving the house and fighting off the online competition. When she creates a fake post based on something she sees at the neighbor’s house, she ignites a controversy that connects women of all ages and brings their stories together, including new moms Olivia and Alison, who both have newborns, but who are dealing with wildly different issues. There were so many likeable women in this book, plus a lot of drama.
