Monday Missive: February 8

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • This week, I discovered a new to me genre-books about therapy! I reread Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. She’s a therapist in California, writing about some of her patients as well as her own experience in therapy when she goes through a crisis point in her life. It made me laugh and cry and I tore through it. I think I would add this to my top ten books of all time. -E

  • After that, I was inspired to read Group by Christie Tate. She’s ranked number one in her class at Loyola Law School, but Christie feels more alone than ever-she isn’t able to date of form friendships or be honest with her family. She joins group therapy, where six strangers meet weekly and are completely honest with each other and the process and people change her life. This was also very intense but I couldn’t put it down. There’s something about hitting a wall in a pandemic that makes reading about other people’s problems and lives very comforting. - E

  • Up next on my romance reading list is Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai - it’s the sequel to The Right Swipe, which I read a few weeks ago and I love it so far. The main characters are a fabulously rich former model who suffers from panic attacks and her dreamy bodyguard, who are clearly meant for each other but can’t seem to admit it to each other. I’m just loving this zippy, modern, romances that use technology as a main plot point! - D

What We’re Buying

  • When I realized that my skin and eyes were looks tres dry around Christmas, I ordered one of the new Canopy humidifiers and it finally came last week. It’s definitely a game changer for dry skin, and having it by my bed has helped my forehead and also my dry eyes. Honestly, I think that any humidifier would be great! The only thing that I don’t love about it is that it has a light that stays on all night and I like my room to be pitch black. Otherwise, this one is super easy to fill, comes with an essential oil distiller if you want to add the soothing scent of lavender at bedtime, and can be washed in the dishwasher. -E

  • To combat the mid winter blues, I ordered a bunch of bright pink loungewear from J. Crew Factory this week. I thought that this sweatshirt and leggings combo was so cute, and I have this turtleneck sweatshirt in other colors and love it with leggings or jeans. I’m hoping that adding in some cheerful colors will brighten my mood and feels very apropos for Valentine’s Day. - E

  • I was at Target last week and their clothing section was so springy and fun, but wildly inappropriate for Boston right now and our cold snap/regular blizzard situation. Dressing for dating is also slightly impossible during this weather, trying to look cute, but stay warm! I ended up finding this very cute tank top on clearance and bought it in black- silky, fitted enough to be flattering, perfect for layering under a chunky cardigan and with adjustable straps that make it just the right amount of low cut. - D

What We’re Making

  • We’re all about cozy food right now, and I can’t wait to make the 30 minute Spicy Sesame Noodles with Ginger Chicken from Half Baked Harvest tonight. -E

  • The girls are making tons of Valentine’s as well, We used this site for inspiration (Cece loves the emoji ones and the fingerprint ones), but they’ve put their own spin on a bunch of ideas and added cute rhymes and acrostics as well. - E

  • Is anyone else seeing this Finnish TikTok baked feta/roasted tomato pasta recipe that’s circulating? I saw a few blogger friends making it over the weekend, and then Goop post a healthy version of it in IG stories! It looks so good and I’m definitely going to make it the next snowy day this week. - D
