Monday Missive: May 2

Last week had a few very late nights of work, so this weekend was all about having fun, at a wedding shower and dinner on Saturday, and getting organized. I finally checked a few big things off of my spring cleaning list this weekend - putting away my winter coats and boots, purging some old/stained clothes and swapping out closets. It’s still chilly in Boston, but I feel so optimistic just knowing my dresses are ready for the next 70 degree day! - D

We had a busy but relaxed weekend-lots of lacrosse games and play rehearsals plus a house warming party to celebrate our friends’ gorgeous new home! On Saturday, Chad and I had a fun date night at Sailor Oyster Bar in Annapolis. It’s the perfect date night spot-we love eating at the bar or at one of the tiny window tables, and the Moscow Mule that I had with fresh ginger instead of ginger beer was so good-I’m still thinking about it now and trying to find a time when we could pop in again. This week it looks like the weather is finally warming up in Maryland, and I’m excited for our backyard construction project to move forward with some stone laying. Also I get to go on a field trip with Cece’s class (maybe I should plan a quick trip to SOB for happy hour after the field trip? It’s going to be a long bus ride with some very excited 2nd graders). Plus the Kentucky Derby is coming this weekend, and although we aren’t having our usual party because of construction, I’m excited to share our cute tablescape and some other fun ideas for celebrating -E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • I am obsessed with “Short King Spring” which is a viral joke about how short men are having a moment, mainly brought on by people shipping Tom Holland and Zendaya - but then this article came out about an insane surgery that is gaining popularity that can make you taller. The whole thing seems terrible to me and like maybe these men need therapy, not surgery? - D

  • I read Life’s too Short by Abby Jimenez in record time this weekend. It’s the third book in the Friend Zone series (you don’t need to read the other books to enjoy this one, but if you like one, you’ll probably like all three). Vanessa Price is facing a family history of ALS, and many of the women in her family died before they reached their thirtieth birthday , so she’s busy living every day to the fullest when her sister leaved her baby with Vanessa for an errand and doesn’t come back. The screaming baby wakes up her neighbor, the super successful and super hot lawyer next door, and romance and babies and puppies and tear-jerking scenes ensue! -E

  • The Worst Boyfriend on the Upper East Side might be the best title of an article that I’ve ever seen? This is a wild read about a scammer who spent more than twenty years taking advantage of women in NYC to maintain his facade of wealth. -E

  • We watched the first two episodes of Our Great National Parks, narrated by President Obama, and the whole family really enjoyed it. I thought that it would be about national parks in the US, but it’s really a nature show about animals in national parks around the world, and the impact that parks can have on the environment and wildlife. The cinematograph is gorgeous and the girls really enjoyed all the animal stories. -E

  • Love this interview with Harry Styles by Better Homes and Gardens! -E

What We’re Buying

  • I’ve been searching for the perfect every day sandals for the summer, and I think I may have found them. -E

  • I’ve had this dress in my Amazon cart all week and am debating if I should pull the trigger! it’s so cute, and I love the back detail, but do I need yet another blue and white dress? How many is too many? - D

  • I made a Sephora trip and while I was looking at the llia serum, the woman working there suggested the Kosas foundation as something similar and less dewy (which my summer skin does not need!). It has hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, so I picked it up and will report back! - D

  • Since Maryland seems to be determined to be cold this spring, I just ordered this happy cotton sweater. It will also be so cute to thrown on when we’re out on the boat at night. -E

  • And if it does get warm, I think this striped shirt and shorts set would be perfect! -E
