Monday Missive: March 14

This week was completely insane for me at work and being back in Boston! I have been trying to refocus on my goals, eat healthily now that I’m out of vacation mode, and keep up all of the walking I was doing in the lovely warmer temperatures. I also signed up for spin classes again - my first indoor, maskless classes in 2 years! It felt so nice to wake up on Sunday this weekend and workout, even though it was super cold. This week is going to be another doozy, but I’m all ready for it! - D

The weather took a turn for the cold and snowy in Maryland this weekend, which is leaving me even more excited for our spring break trip to Georgia this week. I can’t wait to be warm and on the beach! We did have fun in the cold this weekend with a mall scavenger hunt birthday party and dinner at True Food Kitchen one night. - E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • I’ve been on such a reading kick and finally read Reckless Girls, which Eloise liked and has been recommended by so many people! It was just what I needed at the end of my vacation, with a spooky tropical island, complicated dynamics with a small group of friends and menacing outsiders. - D

  • I also read Bright Ruined Things, which is loosely based on The Tempest and set on a magical island (islands are my theme this week!) owned by a mysterious family that harnesses the magic for profit. The daughter of the island manager is deeply intertwined with the family and their dynamics, and finds herself at the center of the intrigue and drama of their annual First Night celebration. I had fun reading this and being immersed in the island for a few days. - D

  • I just started reading The Lesser Bohemians by Eimar McBride and the unique writing style sometimes leaves me confused but also makes it hard to put the book down. -E

  • Ever wanted to be a celebrity ghost writer? This article might inspire you. -E

  • I’m also reading Beautiful Little Fools by Jillian Cantor which was a Grace Atwood recommendation. It’s the story of The Great Gatsby from the women’s point of view and I’m liking it so far, but it hasn’t totally hooked me. -E

  • I didn’t know that Bon Appetit had a regular Trader Joe’s product review column, but now I’m going to have to keep up with it! -E

What We’re Buying

  • Coming back from vacation, I had to reorder my favorite Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops. I love adding a drop or two to my moisturizer once or twice a week - and on vacation, I added them to my body lotion after my pre-trip self tanner faded a little bit. Gives such a great subtle glow! - D

  • My face has been so dry coming back to New England winter and I’ve been popping the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask over my evening skincare. It helps to seal everything in and I don’t wake up feeling tight. - D

  • I got this dress on sale at Roberta Roller Rabbit and I can’t wait to wear it this week! It’s the prettiest shade of blue, and it says that it’s a cover-up but it’s full lined, so I’m planning to wear it as a dress.-E

  • Banana Republic has a lot of tailored safari-ish looks right now, which I into right now. Maybe that’s because Cece and I just watched The Jungle Cruise movie? I didn’t understand the plot at all (was there one?) but I was very into Emily Blunt’s outfits! I ordered a bunch of stuff to try and am keeping this shirt in navy and these pants in cream. -E

  • Chad has been on a quest to find good salsa and his new favorite is the Taqueria Small Batch Salsa from Whole Foods. Tastes so much like out favorite Mexican restaurant’s. -E

What We’re Making

  • You may have seen on Instagram stories that Lila and I made the yummiest chocolate and vanilla Marble Bundt Cake this weekend, using this recipe! We skipped the glaze but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. -E
