Monday Missive: June 7
We are back! It’s safe to say that Memorial Day Weekend kicked both of our butts - from family time to summer event planning and work last week, we were completely flat out and took a break from our happy place, this blog, to get everything done. Between all of the travel, summer prep, baby showers, weddings and craziness we did manage to watch a new shows, read new books and shop for some summer wardrobe updates.
What We’re Reading and Watching
New favorite author alert! I read If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane over the weekend and immediately downloaded another one of her books as soon as I finished it. When Laurie get’s dumped by her partner of 18 years, but still has to work with him at their legal practice every day, she doesn’t know how she’s going to get through it. Enter Jamie, the resident dream boat of the office, and things soon start to get very interesting! Laurie is such a smart and layered character-I loved her and the book and couldn’t wait to read more. -E
Last week in between all the craziness, I binged all of Mare of Easttown and watched the finale. It was as excellent as the reviews and social media had said, and I would be surprised if Kate Winslet doesn’t get the Emmy for it! It was a solid murder mystery with enough twists, but not too scary or gory. - D
You may have seen on Instagram last week that I was reading The Ivies by Alexa Donne, a YA thriller about a group of intensely competitive girls at a fictional boarding school, who are all about getting in the Ivy league college of their choice, no matter what the cost. When one of them winds up dead the day they find out about Early Decision acceptances, the only scholarship member of the group, Olivia, starts to wonder who she can trust and what cost she’ll have to pay for her own future. -E
What We’re Buying
My white jeans need a total overhaul this summer ( I put on my old pair over Memorial Day and it was NOT GREAT), so I have ordered a few pairs to try including these from Madewell, and this Mother Denim pair that I saw in another wash on my friend Katherine recently. I can’t wait to see what fits! - D
Once the weather gets hot, I want to live in skirts and dresses, and I got this maxi skirt from our friend’s clothing line when we were in RI for Memorial Day weekend even though it was 45 degrees. When I got back to Maryland, it was 90 degrees out and I was so excited to pop it on! -E
What We’re Making
I’m in a bit of cooking slump right now, so if you have any books or sites that you’re loving, send them my way! I found this Love and Lemons round up of favorite salad recipes and I’m going to try some this week in hopes that it helps me get back into more creativity in the kitchen. -E (Me too!! I keep making the same things! Help! - D)
Are you trying to find fun end of the year gifts for teachers? I thought this NY Times article had some creative suggestions! -E
