Monday Missive: February 28
I stayed in Georgia this week for a change of scenery, working most of the time, but taking a few days off for a mini-Spring break. The whole week was amazing, but the highlight was definitely our day trip to Cumberland Island. I had always heard about the famous wild horses there, but really hadn’t done much other research into it before a few weeks ago - and I was completely blown away! If you are ever in the part of Georgia or Florida, I can’t recommend going for a day strongly enough! Otherwise, I ate shrimp and grits every chance I got, played with our brother’s new puppy and enjoyed being outside as much as I possibly could before I go back to Boston winter. - D

What We’re Reading and Watching
Dear Therapist is podcast by Lori Gottlieb, the author of one of my favorite books of all time, Maybe You Should Talk to Somebody (she’s also a licensed and very gifted therapist!). In each episode Gottlieb ad her co host have a “session” with a listener and help them with a problem. -E
I have been hunting for floor lamps for my office and for Chad’s office and they are impossible to find! This article explains why and made me feel like I wasn’t a crazy person. -E
I read two thrillers this week-thanks to flying by myself for the first time in I don’t know how long. I thought Greenwich Park was a bit disappointing (I just couldn’t like any of the characters), but I really enjoyed Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins -E
One of my sorority sisters from College of Charleston, Claire O’Bryan, has an amazing podcast called Dabble Co. Claire is a Nurse Practitioner, who worked in surgical oncology, then co-founded The Skin Clique, and has some of the best commentary on aesthetic treatments and really all aspects of health that impact women. If you want a wellness podcast that is more about what busy parents and professionals can actually do, I highly recommend it! Also, her Instagram is hilarious and gave me life-changing advice about dry shampoo! - D
Our mom had books waiting on our bedside tables (and gummy candy!) which I thought was the cutest way to welcome us. My book was Vox, a modern dystopian story, where the religious right has taken over and women wear counters on their wrists that zapped them if they spoke over 100 words each day, and aren’t allowed to read or write. It hit a tiny bit close to home, but was a very quick read with a satisfying ending. - D
What We’re Buying
This paper vase is such a fun and happy statement piece. -E
I got the cutest casual dresses from my friend Lisa’s shop for our trip to Georgia. I love the midi length of this one, and I also debated this fancier option. Am I brave enough to wear something with a cut out?? -E
I am seriously debating the new Margaux sneakers. I love having a nice, solid colored pair to wear during the day, especially for Spring in Boston, when it isn’t quite warm enough to wear sandals. My only question is do I get the white or the pink?? - D
What We’re Making
I have two cookbooks that I got from the library and I’m determined to try recipes from the this week. The first one is Baking with Dorie by Dorie Greenspan, and I let Lila (our resident dessert enthusiast) pick two recipes for us to make first. She chose the Iced Honey Apple Scones and the Coconut Milk Chocolate Marble Cake, and we’re waiting for a special occasion to try the S’mores Ice Cream Cake and the Jelly Roll Cake. -E
I’m also still working on Molly Baz’s Cook This Book, and the girls were telling me the other day that they love cooked carrots (who knew?) so I’m going to try to her Raw and Roasted Rainbow Carrots with Sesame and Lime and see how that goes over! It looks amazing but might be too exciting for the kids? We’ll see…-E
