Monday Missive: December 27

We had the best time being together with our family over Christmas. Cooking, carols and festive cocktails were all part of the fun, with a few dance parties with the kids and silly family games thrown in for good measure. The weather was nice and warm in Annapolis, so we were also able to get outside for fire pit time and for a hike and for the girls to play with their new skateboards and remote control cars. Now we have a week of vacation to look forward to and I have so many books to read-yay! -E

My holiday started off a little bit rough with a bad reaction to my booster shot delaying my arrival by a day, but once I made it Maryland, we had the best time! This week should be fairly light on the work side and heavy on the fun - plus figuring out how to use all of my new skincare and sweaters simultaneously. - D

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey was the perfect romcom read this week! An LA party girl, who’s basically Alexis from Schitt’s Creek, is sent to a little fishing town in Washington State as penance for a particularly wild night, and when she gets there, she learns about herself and a very hunky fishing boat captain with a complicated past. It’s like candy in book form and so easy and fun. -E

  • I’m currently reading the latest Liane Moriarty novel, Apples Never Fall, and I have to say that I’m very into it and have no idea where it’s going. Is Joy missing? Is she just going off the grid as the text to her kids indicated? And why is their father so unconcerned about the whole thing? -E

  • I’m planning to treat myself to murder later this week with The Therapist by B.A. Paris. I have big dreams of spending Thursday afternoon sitting by a fire and maybe reading the entire thing cover to cover. - D

  • There have been mixed reviews for Don’t Look Up, but I’m excited to watch it later this week! They filmed so much of it in Boston and Jennifer Lawrence was staying on my street during, so I feel very connected to it. - D

What We’re Buying

  • Our friend Lisa just launched a website for new shop, Wish List Boutique and it’s so great! I’m wearing an outfit from her store in the picture for this post and she has so many sweaters and cozy sweats that I’m loving right now. If you need a last minute NYE outfit, definitely check out it out. -E

  • J. Crew is having a big post Christmas sale and I’m very tempted by this cable knit sweater, this open weave sweater, and this elegant cream coat. - E

  • Sephora is doing a 20% off of sale items this week, so it’s the perfect time to stock up on anything you didn’t get from Santa. There are a ton of gift sets in there and I am eyeing this set of two Biossance favorites just to have backups! - D

  • Now is the moment to stock up on all of the holiday decor you resisted buying for yourself! Anthropologie is having a 40% extra off sale and Target has so many cute things on sale too! - D

What We’re Making

  • We did so much cooking over the holiday weekend, including amazing Barefoot Contessa Meringues with Fresh Raspberry Sauce that our mom made, grilled oysters and grilled brie that the boys made, and the Chicken Stew with Biscuits that’s the perfect winter make ahead recipe.
