Monday Missive: June 20
Our pool project is coming together and the girls were actually able to swim in the pool this weekend! It’s so exciting to see it in the final stages-now that the stonework is done and the pavilion has a roof, it feels very real! Last night, we had a fun campout for Father’s Day. Chad used to love camping as a kid, but after some camping trips early on in our relationship, I realized that I loved to be outdoors all day but needed an actual bed at night to do any sleeping, so we had never actually taken the kids camping. I borrowed a tent from my friend Jenn and set it up in the backyard and we cooked hot dogs and s’mores over the fire pit and then played card games and told stories in the tent. Did we actually sleep in the tent? Nope. But it was so fun to hang out in the tent and it got everyone off of screens and interacting on a beautiful summer night, so it was a win to me! And we got to do something that Chad loved, which was so nice on Father’s Day. -Eloise
I spent my weekend in Rhode Island again because we had a wedding to attend in Newport, but hotels were so crazy expensive that we decided to stay with my parents and have someone drive us to and from the wedding. It was such a pretty night and the wedding was beautiful, but I am definitely out of practice for being at parties like that and wearing heels for that long! The rest of the weekend was very relaxed and ended with a Father’s Day dinner with Ken’s family. I’m excited that we are staying in Boston this coming weekend so that I don’t have to pack or travel - I need a break and some time in my own bed! - D
What We’re Reading and Watching
Adding reading Oh William! to my to do list after reading this interview. -E
I read The Last Book Party: A Novel by Karen Dukess over the weekend and loved it. A coming of age story set in the literary world of the late 80’s and bouncing between New York City and Cape Cod, it gave me all the nostalgia for summer vacation, that stage right after college when you’re trying to figure out who you are, and all the complicated family dynamics of generations living together. -E
Have you tried the healthy Coke trend that’s going viral? Thinking I will try to get to get the girls to check it out this week. -E
Dinah and I used to love Suri’s Burn Book! -E
Yes to Elise Goldberry and to Girls5Eva. She is so talented and that show cracks me up. -E
The big show on my watch list for this week is The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon Prime. I loved this book when I read it a few years ago and have heard that the show is cute! - D
It’s Prince William’s 40th birthday today and instead of formal portraits, he is on the cover of The Big Issue, a publication that is sold in the UK by the homeless to help them get back on their feet. It’s a lovely article that highlights an issue William has been involved with since his childhood through Princess Diana. There is also a great series in the Daily Mail about William and what his plans are for his future and future of the monarchy. - D
Love Grace Atwood’s newest article on getting dressed for going back to the office a few days a week! I have been struggling with how to dress myself for the voluntary day or two a week I am going in. - D
What We’re Buying
I was just talking to my friend Jamie about how Banana Republic is having an upswing and then I saw this dress-it would be perfect for parties this summer! -E
And this white dress is also so pretty! -E
How pretty are the different colors of these spiral candles from Amazon? -E
Yes, please to this lobster print dress! It’s basically summer in a print. -E
And this lobster wallpaper is equally fun! -E
I placed a big J. Crew Factory order this weekend and picked up the red, white and blue dress that Eloise shared over the weekend, this pink and white block print dress that is on clearance, and this easy, poppy colored number that I think will be cute with sneakers during the day. - D
I noticed a few people wearing these long pearl earrings like this Etsy pair over the weekend and love them! The perfect way to add a little bit of drama to a look without being too clunky or sparkly. - D
What We’re Making
Skillet nachos (I subbed chicken) were back for another win this weekend. We’re obsessed. -E
A Frozen Aperol Peach Margarita sounds right up my alley. -E
We ate our favorite farro salad over the weekend and it made me just want to always have it ready for lunch at home! - D
