Royal Report: June
It was such a busy month for the royals (June usually is!) with annual events like Royal Ascot, Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon, but we also got a few extra special big moments, like the G7 summit and a landmark project launching from the Duchess of Cambridge. As a royal watcher, it was fun to see so much good fashion and watch them all shine again on the diplomatic and athletic stage.
Royal Report: June
The G7 summit is always a big deal in the political world, but having it in Cornwall this year gave the UK the chance to add that royal shine that makes everything more glamorous. The Queen was a huge draw, with the world leaders clearly drawn to her at every opportunity. The Duchess of Cambridge also did an amazing joint engagement with Dr. Jill Biden about early years education that I hope is the beginning of their collaboration, while Prince Charles did engagements around his environmental work with the World Economic Forum, including a joint reception with Prince William.
The Queen had a scaled down version of her annual birthday parade, Trooping the Colour. While we didn’t get the whole Windsor clan on the balcony, we did get some lovely military pomp! The parade was at Windsor Castle (which probably looked familiar if you watched Prince Philip’s funeral).
I wrote a longer post about Royal Ascot, the traditions, the history, the guest list and the fashion, but it was wildly exciting for royal fans to see it actually take place. There were fewer royals in attendance than usual, Edward and Sophie, Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Anne, Prince Charles and Camilla and of course, one appearance from The Queen (she usually comes a few days!). The fashion was fabulous, but I did miss the carriage procession and seeing the Cambridges and the York girls there, plus all of the extended royals.
The Euros Football Championship has been taking place the last few weeks, with royals from all over attending matches to support their national teams! Prince William is the President of the Football Association, so he made an appearance at the England/Germany game, and not only brought Kate, but also Prince George! He looked so adorable in his mini blazer and tie (the dress code for the box they were in) and seemed a tiny bit overwhelmed by the crowd. It reminded me of when Eloise and I took the girls to a Taylor Swift concert - they were completely stunned by the crowd and the scale of it all!
The Duchess of Cambridge has made the “early years” the focus of her work, and how the experiences from conception to five years old. She launched a Centre for the Early Childhood, with a new six person staff, which will focus on research, awareness campaigns and finding solutions. She partnered with the Centre on the Developing Child at Harvard University and the London School of Economics for an initial report about the economic impact.
