Monday Missive: August 31
Three Things Eloise is Talking About This Week:
Sweaters: Can you believe it’s the end of August already? I’m sad to see summer go but also starting to get that itch to do fall activities and shopping. All I want to buy right now are lightweight sweaters. I tend to overheat and get super itchy in sweaters, so I usually stick to cotton year round, unless I can find just the right cashmere or wool mix. Right now I’ve got my eye on these classics from Jenni Kayne, this one from Everlane and this one from JCrew.
The Kentucky Derby: The Derby usually runs the first Sunday in May, but it was delayed this year due to the pandemic and is happening this Saturday, September 5th. My husband is from Kentucky and we lived in Louisville for a few years, so we love the Derby and usually have a big party. This year, we’ll be celebrating in a smaller way, but I’m still planning to make mint juleps and have a few friends over to bet on the race. It’s such a fun excuse to dress up and be festive!
Beautycounter All Bright C Serum: My skin is definitely showing the effects of the summer sun, and I’m looking for a product that help address some of the age spots that have popped up, along with the general dullness and dryness after being out on the beach and having a few too many cocktails. I’ve heard great things about the vitamin C serum from Beautycounter—it’s supposed to brighten skin and even out your tone. I’ll be ordering it this week and starting it next week as part of our fall reset (more info on that to come!).
Three Things Dinah is Talking About This Week:
Dry Oil: With some of the summer humidity dissipating, I’m finding that my skin is starting to get drier! My favorite go-to for my body (especially if I’m going to do something fun and want to smell good) is the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil. Eloise actually bought this for me on a trip to France a few years ago, and I fell completely in love with it. I bought a big bottle that I keep on my vanity because I love the smell and feeling a little bit fancy and French - since I don’t wear a lot of perfume, this serves a double purpose.
Transition Dressing: I was in Target recently and a friend pointed out this fabulous black eyelet dress she had bought earlier in the summer. It was on super clearance (even less $$ than it is online!) - so both myself and the third friend with us both bought it! I am planning to wear it to a rehearsal dinner in a few weeks - the sleeves and the longer length make it a great transition into fall dress, plus it looks cute under a jean jacket.
Umbrella Academy: I loved the first season of this show on Netflix - it’s a mix of super hero, science fiction, family drama, time travel and full on campy violence and has a fabulous cast. Not for everyone, but if you like quirky comic book shows, it’s a big winner in that category! The second season finds the cast in Dallas in the 1960’s so there is a new element of period costumes and sets, as well as a mostly new supporting cast.
