Monday Missive: July 6th
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! We celebrated by staying outdoors as much as possible, getting out on the boat for a bit, and meeting up with another family for a festive dinner on the dock. Now we’re looking forward to summer being in full swing and embracing the heat.
Three Things Eloise is Talking About This Week:
A Wicker Tray: I picked up similar tray on our recent trip to St. Michael’s after coveting one that my aunt had at her house a few weeks ago. It’s perfect for turning our outside ottoman into a table and protecting drinks and snacks from our puppy. When I’m not using it outside, it’s pulling double duty as the centerpiece on our dining room table with a vase of flowers and hurricane lanterns on it, which makes that room look more summery and casual.
Hamilton: Did everyone else watch Hamilton more than once this weekend? We felt like the only people in American who hadn’t seen it live, so we were thrilled when it was announce that DIsney+ was releasing it. We weren’t sure what to expect, but we were blown away by the experience and it couldn’t have been more perfectly timed, as we got to give the kids and ourselves a history lesson about the founding of our country. The girls spent the rest of weekend randomly belting out “Eliza!” and “I’m not giving away my shot,” along with the lyrics from everything that King George sang.
Real Housewives of Potomac Taglines: They released the new taglines for season 5 of Potomac and once again, the ladies are here for all of the drama ( I especially love Candiace’s new line). This is one of my favorite cities, so if you haven’t been watching, now’s the perfect time to catch up so that you’re in the loop for my weekly recap. Potomac has been getting better each season as they’ve played around with the cast, so if you tried it the first season and didn’t love it, I would really recommend diving in and giving it another go-Grande Dame Karen makes me laugh out loud, and I can’t wait to see what goes down between Monique and Candiace this season.
Three Things Dinah is Talking About This Week:
The Politician: Season Two of The Politician dropped on Netflix recently, so I took advantage of my first full solo day and night in months to binge it. The humor is definitely dark and the tone can be a little bit jarring, but there are so many talented people in the show (especially this season with Bette Midler and Judith Light playing larger roles) and I can honestly NEVER see the plot twists coming, which is rare for me! This season the politics are very much out of high school and in the real world - I mostly just want Gwyneth to run for office now?!
Sparkling Watermelon Juice: I’m visiting Eloise this week and one of the many perks of that is getting to go a full-sized Trader Joe’s as opposed to the mini one in my Boston neighborhood. I tried their sparkling watermelon juice and it was a true revelation! I cannot get enough watermelon in the summer, and have been adding a little bit of this to my tequila/seltzer cocktails for a little bit of sweetness and flavor. I also drank one over a ton of ice the other day and it was a delightful poolside drink!
Who? Weekly: These days there are SO MANY celebrities to keep track of and I honestly know more worthless information about which c-list reality stars and actors have dated than I should admit in writing. Who? Weekly is a hilarious podcast where they deep dive into these celebrities that are always getting PR placements in The Daily Mail, but who you wouldn’t know without an explainer, like “Son/Daughter of,” “Star of this CW show,” or “Singer of Summer Hit.”
