Three Things Eloise is Talking About This Week:
The Tiny Tassel: I saw Mimi’s site on several blogs that were promoting black owned businesses, and I immediately fell in love with her aesthetic. Her store, The Canonbourgh Collective, in Charleston sells jewelry that she hand makes and clothes that are handmade by her mom, along with other great items. The cheerful colors and prints and interesting materials would make me feel happy every time I put them on. A lot of her items are sold out right now, but you can get the same happy vibe from her Instagram-I started following her immediately while I wait for a restock!
Amanda Kloots: You may have been following Amanda on Instagram, as she documents her husband, Nick Corderero’s long battle with Covid and the toll it has taken on him. Amanda’s hope and positivity in their journey have been inspiring people across the world. She also shines that positivity through the workouts that she on her subscription site, and they are intense and fun and will kick your butt (and thighs and every other part of your body). I am totally obsessed with them right now! A former dancer and now celebrity trainer, her workouts are a mix of dance (what I call jumping around because I’m a terrible dancer) and cross training. You get a comprehensive workout done in 40-50 minutes and sweat more than I though possible. She also has shorter workout to target specific areas if you only have time to squeeze something fast in.
The Beauty and the Baker: I started watching this show on Hulu this week and have been burning through it. It’s about a Cuban American man, Daniel Garcia, whose family owns a bakery in Miami. Through a chance encounter he meets Noa Hamilton, one of the most famous celebrities in the world, at a restaurant and they begin a relationship. It’s similar to Notting Hill, it’s low stakes, and the sub plots involving the family and friends are also great. If you’re looking for something light and breezy as a little respite, this is a great pick.
Three Things Dinah is Talking About This Week:
Flower Power: This week, we started watching The Big Flower Fight on Netflix and it’s an absolute joy! It’s a wacky, off-beat, floral-sculpture version of the Great British Bakeoff, complete with wild theme outfits, judges you have never heard of, and a diverse group of quirky contestants. The scale and technical skill required to make larger-than-life creations out of different plant materials is impressive and I’m already falling in love with some of the contestants.
Scammer Alert: One of my obsessions the past two years have been scams. I’ve always loved true crime, but between Anna Sorokin, the Fyre Festival and Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos there have been so many fascinating characters get recently revealed as scammers. My favorite podcast on the topic is Scam Goddess. I first found Laci and her hilarious take down of scammers when she and went after one of my least favorite internet personalities, Caroline Calloway. She’s smart, funny and informative, the podcast trifecta! I also love that I hear about scams from her that I haven’t seen blasted all over the media.
Fancy Salad Inspiration: I’m staying with our mom still and we went on a fancy salad kick this week, which mainly revolved around different types of cheese. While some of the recipes were less successful, we definitely enjoyed our favorite Barefoot Contessa salad, where you bake goat cheese in phyllo and make the yummiest champagne vinaigrette. A word of warning - we usually swap out the phyllo for puff pastry because it’s easier to work with!
