Winter Skincare Saviors

With all the snow we got last week and the plummeting temps that went along with that, we launched into full winter mode. The kids were complaining about their cracked lips and I noticed that there were grooves on my face that I would swear hadn’t been there in December. It was a bit of a situation, but then I remembered that I hadn’t gotten out my holy grail of winter skin care-my bedside humidifier! I filled it up and I woke up the next morning looking markedly refreshed versus the day before. I also stocked up on all my other heavy hitters for moisture that I keep next to my bed and in my car, and now I’m feeling so much better. Dinah and I are going to share some of our go-to’s below and please let us know if you have any other recommendations! -Eloise

On Our Vanities

  1. I love this Biossance oil year round, but especially in the colder months when I really layer it on. I’ll apply my serum or retinol at night and then layer this over it. If I’m feeling really dry, I’ll then layer some Jet Lag Mask on top of that to feel like I’m sealing it all in. -E

  2. This Vitamin C serum also has hyaluronic acid and other moisturizers, so it doesn’t dry out my skin and is great for winter. I apply it every morning and sometimes at night too. -E

  3. This gel cream that Dinah gave me for Christmas feels light, but it actually does a great job of moisturizing my skin without clogging my pores. I’ll layer some Supergoop on over it for SPF and an extra layer of moisture in the mornings. -E

  4. I love my routine and try to add/adjust it with the seasons versus changing it completely. My biggest add during the day has been the Sephora Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer. I’m putting it on after my Vitamin C Serum and then layering my daily moisturizer on top of it. My skin was so dry in November and I’ve seen a huge change with this! - D

  5. I’ve also been layering ultra-hydrating masks on over my routine a few nights a week and regularly turning to Laneige Water Sleeping mask that Eloise gave me for Christmas. It’s water-based, has squalane and doesn’t feel too heavy, but seals everything in. - D

On Our Bedside Tables

  1. In my opinion, having a humidifier by your bed is so so effective for keeping skin looking plump and healthy in the winter. Not only is it good for your skin but it can help protect you from germs and sinus issues. I love the Canopy humidifier that I have because I don’t have to worry about mold with it and it has a fun diffuser option which feels very spa-like, and I put it right on my bedside table to get the maximum benefits. (Sometimes I spill a teeny bit water from it when I’m refilling the canister, so I wouldn’t put it directly on wood or anything delicate.) -E

  2. I pile on this lip balm every night right before I fall asleep and it helps to prevent cracked and dry lips, especially with the humidifier going on my night stand as well. -E (I use this one as well! It’s a game changer and never makes the skin around my mouth breakout! - D)

  3. Same for the hand cream! My hands get so dry in the winter and end up getting cut really easily if I’m not careful, so I keep a hand cream by my bed and load it on every night when I get into bed. The other night I found an almost empty container of the Herbivore Coconut Body Oil and put some of that on my hand before bed and it was heaven-they smelled so good! I may have to get a new bottle of that for my hands too. -E

  4. My go-to hand cream in the winter is this affordable find with retinol in it. Since I’m getting less sun, it feels safe to up my retinol use and I don’t want my hands to look weirdly old! Is that weird? - D

In Our Purses and Cars

  1. Hadley randomly picked this lip balm out when we were standing in the checkout line at Sephora and it is so good! I keep it my car and it’s so nice to have something to layer on when I’m out and about. It’s very think, but it absorbs quickly so it doesn’t feel like it’s just sitting on your lips and being sticky. -E

  2. I keep this hand cream in my car because I never notice my hands when I’m running around the house and trying to get out the door, but once I’m sitting in my car, I’ll all of a sudden realize that they’re dry and rough. This cream is super moisturizing, has SPF, and absorbs quickly enough that I can apply it while sitting at a red light. -E

  3. I love the Glossier Balm Dot Com during the winter because the texture is so thick that it feels like it’s protecting my lips from the wind and cold! - D

  4. Hand sanitizer is still a purse essential for me, and this Farmacy one is affordable, but also has aloe in it so it soothes dry winter skin. - D
