Three Thrillers To Read This Spring

I’ve read three fun Thrillers/Mysteries this spring and thought it would be fun to share them with you! There’s something here for everyone, depending on whether you want something that’s a little highbrow and you don’t need to be embarrassed to share it with a coworker (check out The Mystery of Mrs. Christie), something that’s definitely going to creep you out and make you think twice about men (check out Every Vow You Break), or something that’s more sexy and mysterious and you’re also desperate for a girls night out (check out The Hunting Wives).

The Hunting Wives by May Cobb

This book is soapy, dramatic, dark and fun. When Sophie O’Neill moves from Chicago to a small town in Texas with her handsome husband and cute son, she’s leaving her job as the lifestyle editor at a magazine in the hopes of living a slower paced life where she’ll have time to garden, start a blog, and spend quality time with her family. But the stay at home mom life starts to get boring and soon she enters the orbit of a group of glamorous and wealthy women, which is centered around the dramatically gorgeous, wealthy and mysterious Margot Banks. As she get closer to the women and is invited to be a part of their “Hunting Club,” she learns that small town life is a lot more dangerous than it appears. Spoiler alert: Everyone is sleeping with everyone in this book, so there is a lot of naked action happening!

Every Vow You Take by Peter Swanson

Abigail Baskin is engaged to the man of everyone’s dreams-Bruce Lamb, a handsome and caring self-made millionaire who’s swept her off her feet in a whirlwind romance. On her bachelorette weekend in California, she ends up having a one night stand with handsome stranger, and even though she regrets it and tells herself that it served to let her know that Bruce really is the right one for her. When her one night stand shows up back in New York right before her wedding and then strange things start to happen on her honeymoon, Abigail is afraid to tell Bruce and ruin their marriage before it has a chance. But the danger keeps mounting and Abigail will have to figure out who she can trust and what her relationship really means to her. Spoiler alert: This is definitely the creepiest of the three if you want something that will make you double check the locks on your door.

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict

This is based on the true story of the incident in 1926 when the iconic author Agatha Christie disappeared for eleven days. She literally vanished and investigators found her car abandoned on the edge of lake as the only clue. There was a massive and very public manhunt across England for her for more than a week and then she resurfaced and returned home, citing amnesia as her only explanation. Benedict has created a fictional imagining of the story behind her disappearance, and the role that her unfaithful husband, staff and the police might have played in the situation. It’s an engaging story on its own, but to know that the core of it is true makes it even more interesting. Spoiler alert: This is more suspenseful than creepy and one that you could safely recommend to your mother or someone who enjoys historical fiction.
