My hair is thick but fine and straight, so I have an easier time keeping it straight in the summer, but that doesn’t stop it from doing what I call “the pyramid” ie when the bottom is think and poufy and the top is flat, so I end up with triangular shaped hair. It’s not a great look! I’m obsessed with keeping my hair as smooth ad possible and preventing the sun from bleaching out the top so much that I have two toned hair. Plus, I’m always trying to keep the girls hair from turning to straw from all of the chlorine and salt water.

  • This Unite detangler is worth it’s weight in gold, and I always have several bottles scattered around our house. I use it on my towel dried hair to keep it silky, but I also spray tons of it on the girls dry hair every morning as a detangler and it turns their hair from tangled straw to silk every time. It’s almost impossible to use too much of it and Lila won’t let me brush her hair without it.

  • I also like to apply a little of the Amika Supernova moisture and shine cream to the ends of my damp hair before I blow dry it and then I’ll dab a little more on the ends once it’s dry to finish it. It helps to weigh my hair down and smooth it out and prevent the ends from getting too puffy.

  • Or if I don’t have time to blow dry it which, let’s be honest, is most days, I’ll spray some Unite throughout, run some Amika through the ends and then put it all back in a low bun with a silk scrunchie like these ones while it’s still damp. The scrunchies mostly help it from getting the awkward lines that a rubber band would leave, and I can usually take out the bun and brush it later in the day and it looks smooth and normal.

Let’s be honest - summer is not my favorite season for my hair. I have a lot of very fine, wavy hair - a complicated combination that thrives the most during drier weather. I mainly try to make it straight and then make it stay straight, or once in a while wear it wavy for a relaxed beachy look.

  • My summer quest is keeping my hair straight-ish and frizz free. I’m not sure that I have fully mastered this and am honestly open for any tips that anyone has! The tools that have helped me the most are the Bumble & Bumble Straight Blow Dry Balm, which I put in my wet hair, and then my trusy Revlon blow dry brush - honestly I have never loved a hair tool as much as I love this! It is the fastest and most effective way to dry my hair, but also give it that body and flip my layers at the end. I always struggled with getting the back of my hair to dry without any wave, but this helps me do it.

  • I occasionally like to embrace my natural texture and air dry my hair. Since it is so fine, I have to make sure I add moisture without weighing it down too much (which pulls the waves down). I recently discovered the Lush Power conditioner - which has biotin and maple syrup in it and helps to define my waves without too much added weight to flatten them out. It also smells amazing!

  • Finally, my life would not be complete without Olaplex No. 3, which I do once a week in the summer (usually leaving it on overnight) and makes my hair and blow dry so much smoother! Plus, the strengthening power of it as a bond builder definitely helps to keep my hair from getting too damaged by the sun.
