Summer Beauty Update

At this point in July, our beauty routines are usually in a pretty good groove, so we thought it would be fun to share the things we have restocked, love using or have tried for the first time and liked this season. Some of these you have seen a few times, and some of them are new to our beauty regimens. From hair tools and sunblock, to sunburn solutions and makeup favorites, there is a little bit of everything.

Summer Beauty Update

Dinah

  • Outside of big parties, I never want to wear too much or too complicated of eye makeup, so my daily go-to is the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eyeshadow in Rosegold. It’s creamy, swipes on easily, is buildable if you want more intense color and lasts all day. It’s also super easy to pack! It comes in 22 colors and helps me to feel a tiny bit more pulled together without having to do a full eye.

  • I have talked about both of these before but Supergoop Matte Screen has been my go-to daily sunscreen/tint again this year, I really love the coverage it gives my skin which is light enough for the day, but evens out some of my redness. I have also been using the Supergoop Bright Eyed, which absorbs quickly into the skin and gives my undereyes nice hydration. My only criticism is that the tint really doesn’t seem to brighten my dark circles or cover them at all, but as an SPF eye cream, it’s doing the job!

  • As I mentioned, I tend to get redness on my cheeks and have had a few days where my nose got a little bit too much sun. Enter Dr. Jart Cicapair, which is a thicker green paste that uses tiger grass to color correct. I was skeptical at first, but now I apply it after my skincare and before my makeup and it definitely helps to tone down any redness. I even got my boyfriend to use it when he got too much sun over July 4th and it majorly helped him, even without any makeup on top - plus it has SPF!

  • On Prime Day, I bought a new Revlon blow dry brush, as my old one was a little bit beat up after a few years of use! It’s still the fastest and easiest way to blowdry my hair at home and end up with the back looking reasonably good.

  • I’m prone to breakouts in the summer from exercising and sweating too much, but the super lightweight Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen has made a huge difference in that for me this year! (Also, just rinsing my face as soon as I get home from a walk or run outdoors). It’s so lightweight that it never clogs my pores and Cece has started requesting “the one that feels like nothing” whenever I attack her with sunscreen. It’s also great under makeup.

  • We go through bottles of Unite Detangle Spray every month, so I will continue to sing its praises as the only hair product that our whole family uses and the best way to fight frizz, tangles, bedhead, pool head-you name it! Truly a one stop shop for all kinds of hair problems and the girls and I can’t live without it.

  • I was looking for a lightweight way to add some color and shine to my lips without doing anything too heavy or formal when I tried the Charlotte Tilbury Hyaluronic Happikiss Lipstick Balm the other day and now I’m hooked. It’s a light wash of color in a super moisturizing balm , which is perfect for my permanently dry lips. I’m also very concerned that my lips are getting smaller and more wrinkly as I age, and this helps to counteract that temporarily while still looking very natural and daytime summer appropriate.

  • I was looking for a new evening mascara after my Ilia started getting too flaky, and the very pretty salesgirl at Sephora convinced me to try to the Nars Climax Mascara. It packs a lot of punch, so it’s definitely a night time look for me, but I love the way it add a lot of drama and curl to my stick straight lashes. (I use the Glossier mascara for my everyday, subtle look).

  • My face has been puffy in the mornings lately and after listening to a Skinny Confidential podcast about the benefits of cold therapy, I realized that I just needed to remember to ice roll my face in the mornings after staying out too late or before I put on makeup and wanted to look nice for an event. It’s such an inexpensive solution and has totally helped with that, plus it’s so calming and relaxing on a hot day!
