Spring Fashion: Splurges and Saves

Does anyone else find it so hard to dress for the spring season? All of the clothes seem so summery, but the nights (and most of the days in Boston TBH) are still pretty cold! We have both been trying to buy a few transitional pieces that we can layer for now, but wear into the summer. Right now, we are both into neutrals and clothes that have a happy and cheerful color palate, but are long sleeved or layer well with a sweater or jacket. We’ve broken down our picks into splurge and steal items, since we both love a bargain, and mixing faster fashion with investment pieces.

Splurge

  1. I have this very light collared sweater from Tuckernuck in more than one color because it’s so easy to wear. -E

  2. I’m loving these woven leather heels from Schutz. The heel is thick enough to wear on grass and the neutral color will match everything! - D

  3. The midi length on this gingham dress from J. Crew makes it perfect for the warm days that pop up when I want to wear something light but my pale legs aren’t totally ready to come out. -E

  4. I’ve worn this coral blouse to a few dinners this spring because the color is so cheerful and fun but the gathered long sleeve keeps it versatile. -E

  5. Normally, white jeans from J. Crew are my happy place, but I’ve been trying to branch out and these cropped and frayed ones from Fairest of Them All are awesome. -E

  6. This J. McLaughlin Sweater Coat is a perfect spring layer for days when you aren’t sure what the weather’s going to do. -E

  7. My first pair of Birdie’s has been a big hit. These loafers are super padded and comfortable and I’ve worn them everywhere from work to a soccer game. I love the light color and the piping. -E

  8. This Sheridan French dress has all the fun colors, and it would look so cute with a jean jacket and sneakers. -E

  9. These Jimmy Choo espadrille mules would be a major splurge, but I love the look of them! -E

  10. I love pretty much everything from Oliphant Design, but their prints can be summery. This pink checked dress is the perfect transition piece. - D

  11. How bright and fun is this cashmere crewneck from Vineyard Vines? Perfect for brunch outside with friends. - D

  12. The new Margaux “ballet mule” is calling my name. The style of a ballet flat, but easy to slip on and off! - D

Steal

  1. I mentioned this blue checked Primark dress in the Monday Missive this week, but I really love it! The sleeve length make it easier to wear in shoulder seasons and the fit is loose without making me completely shapeless! - D

  2. I love a white blouse and this knit one from H&M looks more expensive than it is and goes with everything. -E

  3. Last summer, I bought this Amazon dress in white and light green, and I’m seriously debating the bright blue one for this summer. It does have a “linen” texture, but doesn’t wrinkle. Is the same dress in three colors excessive? - D

  4. H&M has some really cute button-downs and I bought this one in the pink and blue striped. The colors make them fun and spring-y without being too beachy while I run around Boston. - D

  5. These green long sleeved eyelet top from J. Crew Factory is giving me all the spring vibes. -E

  6. The espadrille mules from J. Crew are so cute and easy and come in a bunch of colors. -E

  7. This utility jacket from Banana Republic is on sale and would make a great layering piece for spring. -E

  8. Speaking of layering-how cute would this dress from Target look under the BR jacket or a jean jacket? -E

  9. This wrap top from Old Navy is such a sweet floral print! - D

  10. The texture on this jacquard hoodie from The Gap is so cute, and my morning walks and runs are still chilly! - D

  11. A midi skirt, like this navy one from Uniqlo/Paul and Joe, with a t-shirt is just the right level of covered up, but still cute and breezy. - D

  12. My white Tretorns are a wardrobe staple, but I think the beige faux suede sneaks from Old Navy feel like a fresh update. - D
