Spring Break Reads

Whether you are sitting by a fire mountainside or on a sunny beach, there is something special about reading a book you love on vacation. With our warm-weather travels on our minds, we made a list of the books we loved recently and think you will too, and the books we can’t wait to read on our upcoming trips.

Easy Breezy

  1. Good Rich People: Okay, so this might fall more under the dark and breezy category, but it still sucked me in completely while I was reading it. Is it all realistic? No way. But if you enjoy a twisty thriller about rich and gorgeous people with no moral compasses, then it’s still a fun read. -E

  2. Reckless Girls: A thriller set on a gorgeous tropical island with attractive people might be a perfect spring break beach read, unless it makes you paranoid about the people you’ve chosen to vacation with…. -E

  3. Castles in Their Bones is the first book in a YA trilogy about triplet Princesses who are also spies, being married off to take down other monarchies so their family can rule the entire continent. Sounds like it will be perfect by the pool! - D

  4. Sign me up for a romance where an up-and-coming Weather Girl conspires with one of her newsroom colleagues to help their respective bosses patch up their relationship, and in the process, start falling for each other! - D

More Serious

1. I loved Groff’s book Fates and Furies, and Matrix is such a wildly different premise that I wasn’t sure I would love it, but have been completely sucked in. It’s about a girl in 12th century England who gets sent to be the prioress of an impoverished abbey. It is so beautifully written and compelling that I can’t put it down, even if the premise seemed very dry and serious at first glance. - D

2. The Lincoln Highway has been sitting on top of my book pile, just waiting for me to feel like I have enough time to dive into it. The premise isn’t one that I would normally consider my style, but I loved Amor Towles two previous books so much that I know this one is going to be totally engrossing once I start. -E

3. Erica Katz’s The Boys Club was a book that I absolutely tore through, so I’m very excited for Fake, her next novel about an art forger. I find the art world fascinating, especially the dark underbelly of forged and stolen works. - D (Note - this one comes out on February 22!)

4. I love escaping into someone else’s life when I’m on a trip and 41-Love by Scarlett Thomas is a darkly funny sports memoir about a mid-life crisis, exercise addiction, tennis, and how to grow up when you really, really don't want to. It might even inspire me to play more! - D

Non-Fiction

  1. I listened to an interview on the Blonde Files podcast with Robin Berzin recently and loved her perspective on wellness, and want more of it from State Change. I think vacations can be a great time to do some soul searching and set new intentions. My year has been off to a tough start, so I am planning to use this book to take stock and get myself into a better place for the rest of the winter and early spring. - D

  2. The Churchill Sisters is a fascinating biography about Winston and Clementine Churchill’s three very different daughters. Each of their children was so different, and their paths and life stories are interesting in and of themselves (Hollywood, prison, princes, and divorces!), but when combined with the company they kept, supporting their father during many of history’s most pivotal moments and the complex emotional dynamics of their family, I literally couldn’t put this down. -E

  3. This might be the first time management book that made me cry. In Four Thousand Weeks, the goal is not to be busy for busy-ness sake, but to really take stock of what you want to accomplish in your life and to make time for that, whether it’s more vacations with your families, pursuing a hobby that you love or simply living in the moment. -E

  4. Recommended by Lori Gottlieb, whose book You Should Really Talk to Someone changed my life, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before is written by clinical psychologist, Dr Julie Smith to provide the skills you need to navigate common life challenges and take charge of your emotional and mental health.
