Royal You Should Know About: Princess Leonor of Spain

Official Title: HRH Leonor de Todos los Santos de Borbon y Ortiz, Princess of Asturias, Princess of Gerona, Princess of Viana, Duchess of Montblanc, Countess of Cervera and Lady of Balaguer. Whew that’s a mouthful! She most frequently goes by Princess of Asturias.

Place in Order of Precedence: Princess Leonor is the first in line for the Spanish throne.

Romantic History: She’s only 15, so no public romantic history yet!

Work and Key Patronages: Chairwoman of the Princess of Asturias Foundation and the Princess of Girona Foundation, although her father assumes the functions of those roles since she is so young.

Why You Want to Have Tea with Her:

Princess Leonor is a standout within the next generation of European royals, in part because her grandfather, King Juan Carlos abdicated the throne in 2014 when she was just 9 years old, making her father King Felipe VI, and putting her front and center as the heir at a young age. Did you know that the heirs to the thrones in Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain are all females? Her parents are wildly attractive and stylish (I did a post on her mother, Queen Letizia, who is by far the chicest modern royal) and she seems to be an incredibly poised and intelligent young woman. She attends Santa María de los Rosales School, which her father also attended.

Along with her sister Sofia, they make many official appearances as a family, and in the last few years she has started to make public speeches. In one of those first speeches, she spoke in Spanish, English, Catalan and Arabic! Typically, they spend a long summer holiday at Marivent Palace in Mallorca, but this year they spent much of the summer traveling around Spain to visit places that were hard hit by Covid and promoting vacations within the country. From a fashion perspective, the women of the family perfectly rocked the “easy summer dress white sneakers” look that was everywhere.
