Monday Missive: October 18

It was a beautiful weekend to be outside!

After a fun trip to see friends and family last weekend, I was felled by the worst cold ever and spent most of the week stuck in bed at home, just trying to stay afloat enough to keep the kids and work on track. I was grateful that it wasn’t anything worse, but it made me realize that we seem to be sick a lot less frequently around here, but when we are, it’s much more stressful! I had to get tested for everything and isolate from my family until I knew for sure what it was and then cancel every meeting and appointment, when I feel like if this had happened a few years ago, I would have tried to power through. At least I got to catch up on all of my tv watching! - Eloise

The last two weeks have been extremely busy with some really high highs (like three of my best friends from high school coming to visit!) and a few low lows. I feel badly that I slacked on my blog posts a little bit, but I recharged over the weekend having cozy dinners and brunches with close friends and taking it easy on drinking and late nights. I am excited for the week to come and to get back into my groove! - Dinah

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • I watched all the tv this week while I was stuck in bed being sick. We just got Apple TV, so I watched The Morning Show and Physical, and Chad and I are watching Ted Lasso together slowly. When my brain was too tired for anything new, I watched old episodes of Friday Night Lights (still love the Taylors and Matt Saracen and Lila and Tim and pretty much everyone on that show!) -E

  • The Guncle by Steven Rowley was the perfect feel good read while I was sick (although it did make me cry!). Patrick, a semi-retired TV star, has been hiding out in Palm Springs since the end of his very famous and successful show. When his best friend, Sarah, loses her battle with cancer, and her husband, who is also Patrick’s brother, loses his grip, Patrick ends up in charge of his niece and nephew for the summer. Their adventures are equal parts entertaining and heart-warming-perfect for me when I was stuck at home sick and couldn’t deal with anything too stressful. - E

  • I watched the HBOMax docuseries on the Remnant Church, because I love a good religious cult expose, and while I was very interested in their craziness, I thought that the doc could have been better. There were so many juicy stories, but it kind of jumped all over the place. - D

  • Did anyone else binge the entire third season of You on Netflix over the weekend? I love this series and was excited to see how they played the dynamic between Joe and Love, and it did not disappoint! Super twisty, some excellent new side characters and biting commentary on suburban life. After taking on NYC cool girl writer culture, Los Angeles celebrity and health obsessions, and SF suburban tech, I can’t wait to see season 4 in Paris. - D

What We’re Buying

  • I just found a new to me kids company, Little English, and ordered a million things for the kids to try on for our trip to Sea Island. How cute is this jumper?? -E

  • My big adventure of the weekend was a trip to the outlets, where I hit up J. Crew Factory and bought a few things I had been eyeing like these green crocodile flats (you all know my obsession with green this season!), and this turtleneck in the most flattering shade of blue - which is almost sold out online, but was available in the store. Do I need it in hot pink? - D

  • I ordered the cutest dark floral shirt from Caralyn Mirand’s recent Amazon The Drop collection, and it came this week! It’s so cute, very well made, and the faux wrap has a hook so it’s easy to either be cleavagey for a date night, or more covered up (I think I am going to wear it to Thanksgiving this year!). - D

What We’re Making

  • Our new family meal request is for the the Skillet Lemon and Dill Chicken from the Defined Dish, with a side of tortellini and a big salad. It’s super simple and everyone’s happy. Plus the chicken is light and gluten-free for Chad while being kid-friendly at the same time. -E
