Monday Missive: March 7

I stayed down South with our parents for the week, and my boyfriend came and joined for the weekend! We had an adventure to Cumberland Island, which had always been on my travel bucket list, but was even more beautiful and fascinating than I had imagined. There was also much needed beach time, outdoor walks and runs and taking every chance I had to sit outside with the dogs. The start of my year has been a little bit rough, so it felt good to get away and reset with some sunshine, even with how awful things are in the Ukraine and the news. Am I dreading going back to freezing Boston? Yes! But I’m also feeling like I have a fresh perspective on what’s next and I’m excited about it. - D

While Dinah was enjoying the warm weather down south, we were on a mini ski adventure! We took the girls and met some friends to ski Whitetail for the day and then spent the night at the Mercersburg Inn. I loved watching the girls ski-every time, I’m worried that they’ll have forgotten how to ski, but they always just pop into their skis and take off without a backwards glance! (And then I follow behind and video them and hope that they don’t notice how much of a mom stalker I am, haha!) With everything that’s going on in the world right now, it feels bittersweet to be able to do these fun things with family and I can’t stop squeezing everyone and wanting to freeze every moment. - E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • This article about freezer care packages was so thoughtful, if you’re making food for someone who’s battling an illness or has a new baby. -E

  • Our mom left books for each of us on our bedside tables as a welcome gift! My book was a modern dystopian novel called Vox, where the religious right is in power and have limited all women to only speaking 100 words a day, not being to read or write, and staying in the home. It was a little bit on the nose for current times, but a quick and easy read with a satisfying ending. - D

  • My mom gave me Bonjour Kale: A Memoir of Paris, Love & Recipes, when I was visiting and it’s a fun mix of memoir and recipes about a New Yorker who moves to Paris in 2011 and is shocked to find that there’s no kale to be had in the city. She makes it her mission to bring the green to the City of Light and learns a lot along the way. -E

  • As a dedicated Hoka fan, this article about ugly shoes was very entertaining! Also, don’t knock it until you try them, haha! -E

  • It took me a little while to get into the new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but now I’m hooked! -E

  • I openly talk about my love of “scammers” and have really been enjoying The Dropout on Hulu about Elizabeth Holmes. It’s been pretty sympathetic to her so far, but I always kind of felt like she wasn’t an evil genius, but became ruthless to ensure Theranos would be successful. Amanda Seyfried is amazing in it! - D

What We’re Buying

  • My favorite dress from the holiday season now comes in a summery blue and white print! -E

  • I need a new cute pair of sneakers for the spring to bop around Boston with and wear with dresses and the new release for Margaux caught my eye! The only question is if I should get the pink or the white! - D

  • This cute blue tunic looks like something that I would live in this spring and summer. -E

  • Just ordered a second bottle of my favorite Vitamin C serum. -E

  • Very intrigued by this clutch and this new to me brand. -E

  • I bought this English Factory sweater during the trip and am kind of obsessed. It’s very bright and fun, but will be perfect with white jeans this summer! - D

What We’re Making

  • The kids requested sandwiches last week, so I tried these Chicken Gyros and Folded Crispy Buffalo Chicken Wraps and they were both a hit! Anything where the kids can customize the ingredients and assemble themselves is usually a good idea for us. -E

  • Lila made the Caramel Crunch-Chocolate Chunklet Cookies from Baking with Dorie and they were so good! They cook in muffin tins, which was a little fun and different. -E
