Monday Missive: January 10

A cozy week in Rhode Island was followed by a busy birthday weekend! Our brothers came to Boston for the day on Saturday and we went to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, one of my favorite spots in the city. Sunday was a low key brunch, a little bit of post-bloody mary shopping and then dinner at Myers + Chang, one of my top 5 restaurants in the city. I’m a little bit tired starting the week, but feeling the love from my family and friends. - D

It was snowy and cold week around here. With all the snow days, the girls barely went to school, so we leaned into sledding and hot chocolate for the most of the week. And once I got everyone dressed and outside, I was either reading all the YA thrillers and working on closet organization for the whole family-exciting stuff, I know! - E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • This weekend, I wanted to watch a show I hadn’t seen before so I started Sex Education on Netflix. It’s about a British teen whose mother is a sex therapist and he starts giving advice at school. It’s very raunchy but also incredibly sweet and I’m excited to keep watching it this week. - D

  • I share a birthday with the Duchess of Cambridge, so this was a fabulous week of profiles on her in the press! I do wish they had compared her to Meghan and other royal ladies less or not at all, but it was fun to get a few new tidbits about her. I especially enjoyed the pieces by The Times and The Telegraph. - D

  • The latest YA thriller that I got into was, They All Fall Down by Roxanne St Clair. At Vienna High, each year ten junior girls are voted onto the Hottie List and it can give them popularity in one swoop, but this year the rankings bring more than just a date to homecoming, when the girls on the list begin to be the victims of strange “accidents.” -E

  • Since I was walking on the treadmill and doing infinite laundry, I also caught up on the second season of Emily in Paris. Loved it except for a few small notes (ie: why was there so much singing?? In one episode, her roommate (whom I generally love) sang three different times and that was way too much for me. Also, why Gabriel? Why would you do that in the last episode??). -E

  • I also saw the new season of Summer House is premiering on January 17th, which has me all kinds of excited and reminded me that I had never watched Winter House. I don’t know why it took me so long, since Summer House is one of my favorite shows, but I think I was afraid of the effort of caring about the cast members, or maybe it was because Austen from Southern Charm was on it (I dislike Austen almost as much I love Craig.) It turns out that my worries were all for nothing and I loved it (Austen is still a limp noodle at the end but everyone else is great). Highly recommend watching it if you like Summer House or Southern Charm. -E

What We’re Buying

  • My buzzed birthday shopping brought me into Anthropologie, where I picked up this fabulous sheer leopard shirt in the sale section! There are only a few sizes left online, but I immediately wore it to dinner and got a compliment from someone at the restaurant. - D

  • I think I posted about this before, but I am absolutely obsessed right now with the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. I’ve been putting it on over my foundation for a little bit of extra coverage and glow and it’s so pretty, giving just the right amount of dewy, blurring the skin a little bit, but not too heavy. You could also definitely replace a BB cream or other tinted product with it, but it’s working best for me as an additional layer. - D

  • I was at Sephora to pick up a last minute gift right before Christmas, and I grabbed a bottle of the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint because I felt like my current CC cream wasn’t quite doing it for me. It’s a tinted serum with SPF 40 and hyaluronic acids and several other minerals. It’s a very light coverage but also very moisturizing, which is perfect for me since I don’t like to wear foundation on a daily basis and I need all the moisture and glow that I can get in the winter. -E

What We’re Making

  • I’m trying to get into the habit of making salmon more often, despite a severe lack of enthusiam from my children. If anyone has any go to recipes, please share! I’m going to try Gaby’s Miso Salmon with Sesame Ginger Noodles this week, which looks super flavorful and fresh. -E
