Monday Missive: February 21

We had such a fun weekend after a very busy week. I went to a new restaurant (The Social-definitely check it out and get a Guava Picante!) one night and then into DC to see Chad’s favorite group, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, for what was our first concert in what feels like a hundred years. It was so nice to be out and about a little, even though it was freezing here this weekend. Now I’m looking forward to hunkering down at work for the week until I escape to warm weather on Friday! -E

The winter blues have been hitting a little bit hard, and my work has been absolutely insane, so this past week my boyfriend and I decided to get out of Boston for a change of scene and head to Rhode Island. We had the nicest weekend of outside walks, a dinner with close friends and reading by the fire. Now, it’s go time to get ready for a long trip to visit our parents in Georgia! Eloise and I are meeting down there later this week for a girl’s trip, and then I’m staying through the week to work from there, get some sunshine and hopefully a little bit of color. - D

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • The new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel dropped the first two episode on Amazon this week, and I’m so happy to be back with Miriam and Abe and the rest of the family! The first episode picks right up from Miriam getting fired on the tarmac, but the clothes and a family trip to Coney Island were so aesthetically pleasing that they were the real highlight for me. -E

  • Dinah and I were totally fascinated by the original article about Anna Delvey, so we’ve been really looking forward to Shonda Rhimes’ take on the story and it didn’t disappoint me. Inventing Anna adds some fictionalized elements, and I love how we get to see the story from so many people’s perspectives—there are so many characters that I loved and others that I loved to hate! -E

  • The Honey Don’t List by Christina Lauren tells the story of Carey Duncan and James McCann, the assistants to Melissa and Rusty Tripp, America’s favorite home design couple. When their marriage hits the rocks right before the release of their latest book and Netflix show launch dates, Carey and James are tasked with keeping the couple together and on brand. This was a fun concept and good light read. -E

  • I just finished Matrix by Lauren Groff. I knew this was going to be an intense read, having read Groff’s work in the past, and because the plot of the book is the life of a 12th century English woman, who is related to the royal family and gets installed as the prioress of a destitute abbey at the age of 17 as a way of getting rid of her. She goes on to make the abbey wildly successful - which sounds like a very dry book, but was beautifully written with fascinating conflicts throughout her life. I haven’t had the brain for reading more serious books lately, but I could not put this one down! - D

  • There was a night this week when I was home alone and wanted to watch a rom-com, so I put on I Want You Back on Amazon Prime, which is about a man (Charlie Day) and woman (Jenny Slate) who both get dumped for other people and team up to break each other’s exes up with their new partners. It was very cute and funny with a great cast! - D

What We’re Buying

  • I tried Dr. Brandt’s Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator for the first time this week and wow was it effective! The combination of round crystals and lactic acid really made my skin fele baby smooth. It might be too much for someone with very sensitive skin, but I loved it. I followed it with the Like Butter Hydrating Mask, which is similar to my beloved Jet Lag Mask, but a little lighter and more liquid-y. -E

  • Old Navy has really cute dresses right now (a big President’s Day sale)-I ordered this one and this one and this one for Cece yesterday! Will let you know how they are in person. -E

  • I’m also walking so much right now that I just want to wear Hoka sneakers all the time, so I added this pair to my collection. -E

  • I shopped our “Steals” post as we were creating it and bought this blue and white floral dress! The pattern is very pretty, it’s lined, which is always a win, and I love that the straps tie into bows. - D

  • My white t-shirt wardrobe needed a little bit of a refresh before our trip this week, so I bought this cute one with a little twist on the sleeves, which takes it up a notch. It’s very comfy, long, which I love and comes in 11 colors. I think I am going to get the navy one next! - D

What We’re Making

  • I just got Molly Baz’s cookbook after seeing it everywhere online and I can’t wait to try it out this week. My girls are obsessed with Caesar Salad right now, so we’re going to try that tonight! -E

  • I was invited to a multi-generational dinner party and low-key panicked about what to bring for a dessert! Eloise had the inspired idea of a dessert platter, and when I saw some Girl Scouts selling cookies, that decided it! I put together a mix of berries, cookies, pretzels and almonds covered in chocolate, nuts and caramels and it was a huge hit - something for everyone no matter the dietary restrictions - D
