Monday Missive: December 6

Getting back from vacation and diving to holiday prep is always a little crazy, right? I swear that this week flew by in a flash-I thought it was Tuesday on Thursday night!I don’t think this week is going to be any calmer, but I am feeling better now that we have a certain level of decorations and gifts and cards underway. Now we get to focus on the fun stuff like baking cookies and wrapping presents! -E

Life has been crazy busy lately, but this week I got my tree up, so all I have left to do for the holidays is some shopping. I needed to relax this weekend, so I had an amazing dinner on Friday night at Porto and then had zero plans for the rest of it, which was dreamy. I did some major organizing, cooking for the week to make yummy lunches and cleaned everything I could get my hands on. I feel so good starting the week rested and prepared! - D

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren was the perfect romcom read for a stressful week. When Jessica, a single mom and math wizard gets talked into signing up for a new matchmaking company that predicts couples’ compatibility from their DNA, the last thing she’s expecting is to get matched up with it’s founder with the highest compatibility score ever recorded at the company. Is the founder also the hot grumpy guy she’s seen at her local coffee shop for years? Yep! All the cliches and yet such a fun and well-written story. I loved it. -E

  • Watching Christmas in Scotland on Netflix is the number one item on my to do list this week! A romance novel author who buys a castle in Scotland and falls in love with a grumpy noble? Sounds like my dream movie. -E (ME TOO!!!! - D)

  • Has anyone else been watching The Sex Lives of College Girls on HBO Max? It’s Mindy Kaling-produced and it’s hilarious! The main characters are four suitemates at an elite New England college who are trying to navigate sex and relationships. Warning - it’s definitely heavy on the sex and sex talk! - D

What We’re Buying

  • I may have snagged a few things for myself at J. Crew while doing all of my online holiday shopping . . . the cinched waist and shawl collar of this puffer coat were too hard to resist, and then I needed a sweater to go under it, right? -E

  • My friend Kelly influenced me into buying these bento boxes for the kids lunches a few weeks ago and they’re just as good as she said! We’ve put ranch dressing, guacamole, and caramel sauce into different sections and never had a leak. -E

  • Like Eloise, I did buy myself a few things while I was holiday shopping - mostly beauty items to take advantage of the 20% off at Sephora! I need a new mascara that’s a little bit more volumizing for nights when I want a more dramatic eye, so I grabbed the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes and the Sephora brand hyalronic acid moisturizer (my skin is so so dry right now). I will report back on both! - D

  • My eyes are struggling from so many hours at the computer so I am living in my bluelight glasses. I love the tortoise frames and feel like they hide my undereye bags and the days that I don’t want to wear makeup. - D

What We’re Making

  • We’re on an enchilada kick and I made these with salsa verde from Trader Joe’s on Wednesday night and everyone loved them. (meaning no one cried when I told them what we were having for dinner-a major victory in our house!) -E

  • I also made the Half-Baked Harvest Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup and it was easy and delicious. The chunky carrots in it were an especially big hit. -E
