Monday Missive: June 6

June is here and it feels like summer. Our outdoor project is almost complete-the pool gets finished and filled with water this week!-and Chad and I had so much fun carrying furniture around and starting to pull it together on Sunday while the girls did a lemonade stand. I may slightly overdone it carrying our giant trampoline around the yard at 8 pm, and my back is not happy with me today, but it was totally worth it to see pieces finally moving into place. And the girls are so ready to be able to swim, as you can probably guess, so I’m sure we’ll be in the water as soon as we’re allowed to be! Chad and I are also popping down to Charleston for a quick trip this weekend, so please share any tips you have with me! I used a lot of the recs from this travel guide by Grace Atwood, but would always love more! - E

It does finally feel like summer! I have been MIA a bit on the blog the last few weeks because of a crazy huge work event that happened over the weekend topped with all of the wedding planning I need to get done - plus stalking the Platinum Jubilee all week. I am very excited for things to finally slow down a little bit during the week so that I can get back into my good morning routine, focus on training for the 10K I am running later this month and maybe even have some fun? Ken was away at a wedding this weekend while I was here working, and it was so nice to have some time to myself. I have to say that this is my favorite time of year in the city - I love walking down the street to try to fid a restaurant to sit outside, meeting friends at beer gardens and going for long walks after work along the river. - D

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • I inhaled Christina Lauren’s latest, Something Wilder over the weekend. They wrote the story during the pandemic , when they were stuck at home and wanted to create a Romancing the Stone adventure vibe and I think they nailed it. It was more plot drive than a lot of books in the rom com genre, but still smart and sexy and funny. -E

  • A Kourtney Kardashian and Gwenyth Paltrow collaboration is all the click bait I need. - E

  • Carmen Johnston is sharing such good gardening advice on Instagram! My friend Grace recommended her account and now I’m an avid follower. Her account is @carmenjohnstongardens. - E

  • I Love That For You stars Vanessa Bayer and Molly Shannon and is set a home shopping network. I loved the different hosts and their over the top personalities and how earnest, but also real, the lead characters are. - E

  • If you’re as much of a classic polo shirt enthusiast as we are, you’ll love this article about how it became an iconic staple. - E

  • The third American Royals book came out, Rivals, and I have been LOVING it! I read almost the entire thing over the weekend, but kept stopping myself so that I could draw the experience out a little bit! Chic Princess Louise is definitely the type of character that inspires my French girl aspirations!- D

  • I have been trying to find a wedding planning podcast to listen to and I can’t find one that I like. Betches Bride is kind of annoying and some of the episodes have zero helpful advice. Does anyone have a recommendation? - D

  • I loved this article on The Cut about “glam” on Real Housewives shows - such an interesting look at how it all became such a thing (Erika Jayne, pretty much) and how each franchise deals with it differently. - D

What We’re Buying

What We’re Making

  • A twist on a classic Caesar salad sounds like the perfect summer meal. - E

  • Ditto for s’mores granola bars! - E

  • And to wrap up my summer food dreams, Martha’s go to picnic recipes that aren’t sandwiches.- E

  • I have my eye on this amazing looking pesto chicken from Half Baked Harvest. When summer comes, all I want is burrata and tomatoes! - D
