Monday Missive: April 4

We had a busy weekend of games and activities, plus a little dinner party on Saturday where I got use my new linens and vases, which made me so happy. We also went to the Annapolis Film Festival for the premiere of our friends’ short film Don’t Your Hold Breath, about their family’s experience with Shallow Water Blackout. It eye opening to say the least, and definitely something that we will be talking to our kids about before we get back in the pool. It’s sunny and back to be spring in Maryland, so I can feel those warmer days coming and can’t wait to be outside as much as possible! (also, my garden is getting wild and needs some love, so I’m hoping to get out and restore order this week!) -E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • Has anyone else watched Starstruck on HBO? It’s about a very normal woman who finds herself dating a famous actor in London - almost a reverse Notting Hill, but with less scandal. I loved the first season and was so excited to see that the second had come out! - D

  • Next in my YA fantasy kick is The Starless Crown, which is definitely a sweeping epic that seems like it’s building up to a series. I like it so far, but am curious to see how the three different plot lines come together. - D

  • I watched the first episode of the new series about Julia Child on HBO Max and it was a like a cozy hug. Julia begins when the Childs are settling down in Cambridge and our favorite French chef is beginning to embark on her foray into television, to mixed emotions from those around her. I can’t wait to watch the rest of the season. -E

  • Our mom has been into Nancy Mitford lately, which got me reading one of her most famous novels, The Pursuit of Love. I really enjoy this type of English farce writing style, full of English gentry who have their own language and refuse to take anything seriously on the surface, but between the lines are dealing with war, love, and family. -E

  • Have you been listening to the Dream Bigger podcast with SIffat Haider? I just discovered it last week and listened to multiple episodes while I was walking or driving around for carpools. She covers everything from journaling tips to growing your business to skincare. It’s so good! -E

What We’re Buying

  • I need new sneakers for spring and picked up this pair of green accented Tretorns (they are on sale on Amazon!). This purchase led to a big conversation with our cousin about sneakers and she ended up getting the CUTEST pair from Birdies that are green and leopard. - D

  • I’m on a spring neutral kick right now. I ordered this quilted sweatshirt in white and this skirt with green piping to wear for tennis. (I’m trying to get back out on the courts with very mixed results right now, haha!). -E

  • I’m also very into this straw and leather tote bag for spring and summer-it would go with everything and is very flexible size. -E

  • These classic mules with bows from Margaux are also in my cart! They would go with everything from jeans to dresses and add a cute neutral pop. -E

What We’re Making

  • I just discover the Bakerita website and I’m trying some her recipes for muffins and protein balls this week-I’ll let you know how it goes! -E

  • When we were visiting my parents in Georgia, our dad made salmon for us one night and a miracle happened-two of my three kids liked and actually went back for seconds! I was determined to recreate it because getting our family to eat salmon regularly was one of those mom goals that I constantly had in my head but had never actually achieved. I used the salmon part of this recipe, which was super easy because I also used the frozen pre-grated garlic and ginger from TJ’s. We loved it and the kids ate all of it! Such a mom victory. -E
