Monday Missive: April 25

I had a very quiet weekend, which I really needed after the craziness of Easter and the Boston Marathon. Saturday was errands, decorating the mantle with spring flowers, repotting a few of our house plants and just generally making our apartment feel more cheerful. On Sunday I focused on prepping for the week - cleaning and organizing my closet, making some salad staples and checking some life things off of my to do list. It isn’t the most exciting update, but some weeks are just normal weeks! - D

Hadley and I recovered from our virus last week just in time for a mother-daughter weekend in Ocean City with friends. It was my first time in Ocean City, and we had so much fun. Driving onto the beach at Assateague and watching the kids play in the (very very cold) surf, while the moms huddled under blankets and chatted and read was pretty much my ideal way to spend they day, followed with some amazing food and champagne for dinner. Happiness! We arrived home yesterday just in time to meet my parents for a visit and head to Hadley’s lacrosse game, so it was a very busy weekend but so much fun, and now I’m ready to be healthy and check off a lot of to do list items this week. -E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • My friend Shannon shared this article from The Atlantic about former royals and it’s fascinating! They look at how several descendants of past European monarchs are navigating their roles in their countries and acting as political forces, unofficial diplomats and spokespeople for the countries they love, even through their families were rejected in past generations. I’m always interested in how people who come from such a legacy navigate their lives and paths forward. - D

  • This weekend I actually had the TV to myself for a few hours and watched the beginning of Get Organized with The Home Edit and Selling Sunset - heaven! I’m very invested in seeing how this Chrishell/Jason relationship unfolds (plus the insane outfits they wear for their fake showings), and I also loved the motivation of seeing The Home Edit ladies in action, even if they do seem a little bit more annoying this season. -D

  • We watched the first half of the new documentary about Abercrombie last night on Netflix and it was fascinating! White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch, all about the pop culture explosion that was A&F in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and the exclusionary marketing strategy behind that. The nostalgia part of the documentary was so fun to see, while the racism behind the marketing strategy was horrifying, but fascinating to see from the perspective of the plaintiffs who exposed it. -E

  • I’m currently reading The Maid: A Novel by Nita Prose and really enjoying it. Molly works in housekeeping at an exclusive New York City hotel, and when she finds one of their most notorious regulars dead in bed one morning, it unlocks a mystery that puts her in danger. Molly has a unique perspective that immediately puts you in her corner, rooting for her to solve the puzzle and figure out who the bad guys really are. -E

  • I loved reading this article about Lauren Santo Domingo’s Hampton’s home. Gil Schafer can do no wrong! -E

What We’re Buying

  • I just got this jacket from Pink City Prints and am totally in love with it. -E

  • These raffia mules are a great easy spring shoe option. -E

  • I went down a rabbit hole of looking at pearl headbands on Amazon and low key fell in love with this set of pink and blue beaded bands. The colors are so pretty and less formal than full pearls. There are also so many good full pearl options including this pack of two that has a white and pink option, and this pretty single band. - D

  • How cute is the striped Mille dress in the cover photo? -E

  • I’ve been living in this cashmere crewneck lately. It’s light and not at all itchy. -E

  • This small block print quilt would be such a cute baby present or small picnic blanket. -E

What We’re Making

  • My boyfriend is obsessed with his air fryer and we finally made these donuts that use canned biscuits for breakfast on Sunday morning. They turned out really well - the trick was to cook them for 5 minutes at 350 and the flip them and cook for 3 more minutes. - D

  • Healthy eating fell apart for me last week with some work stress, so I prioritized prepping healthy ingredients over the weekend to make my lunches super easy. I roasted sweet potatoes so that I can remake the Sweetgreen Harvest bowl, and roasted chickpeas with some chili powder on them to make a crunchy chef’s salad. It’s simple, but I think going to help me stay balanced! - D
