Monday Missive: April 11

After a few very busy weekends, I finally had some time to relax. It rained on and off, but I had some lovely walks, a nice dinner out on Friday and a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts on Sunday. Boston is finally showing signs of spring with trees blooming and daffodils, so I have been trying to spend as much time outside as possible. I was also so inspired by Eloise’s spring-y tablescapes that I reorganized some flowers and decorated my mantle with my Herend bunnies. It looks so cute and makes me really happy! - D

The tulips that I planted last fall popped up this week. which made me so happy. I was really starting to wonder if I had done something wrong when I planted them, despite everyone telling me that it was practically impossible to mess up bulb planting. My friend Kim also invited me to stop by one of my new favorite stores, Details and Design in Eastport, and I’m so excited that they’re carrying Mille and The Great. After doing nothing but online shopping for two years, it’s really nice to somewhere and be able to try on clothes in person!

We also went to our first Navy Lacrosse game, and I was so impressed by the whole thing. I’ve watched a lot of women’s lacrosse, but not very much men’s, so it was very cool to see. Also, Hadley and Cece got to participate in the half-time children’s competitions which they thought was the most fun thing ever. Go Navy! -E

What We’re Reading and Watching

  • Really have been loving all of the tech CEO/rich scammer series. I finally finished Inventing Anna and The Dropout (enjoyed both but thought The Dropout was overall better), and have started watching WeCrashed, which I also really like. - D

  • This excerpt from Tina Brown’s upcoming royals book in Vanity Fair was so interesting. Princess Diana is so worshipped in pop culture, but she was a very complicated woman who wasn’t a victim of the press as much as an active participant in the press mania around her. I think seeing all of these anecdotes woven together paints a very different picture of who she was. - D

  • I’m finishing up Jackie, Janet & Lee: The Secret Lives of Janet Auchincloss and Her Daughters Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Lee Radziwill and it’s fascinating. The stories about Jackie and Lee are interesting, but I especially loved learning more about Jackie and Lee’s mother and extended family-I have to admit, I didn’t even know that they had half-siblings and step-siblings that they were so close to! -E

  • I started watching Netflix’s newest Love is Blind spinoff, The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On. I have to admit, Chad and I were very confused by the concept (Chad wandered in when I was watching the end of the second episode and then was too tired to escape when it became clear what I was watching). It’s hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey and has couples who have been dating for a while but one of them won’t commit to marriage, so they end up swapping partners to see if they like someone else better? Except some of them don’t swap? Like I said, it’s confusing but also totally engrossing, haha! -E

  • This article about the business of manifesting is so interesting! -E

What We’re Buying

  • I took a stroll through Anthropologie over the weekend and they had so many cute, dressy shorts. I’m debating between this brocade-style pair, this pastel lace pair, or this solid pair with a scalloped edge. There are so many others too! - D

  • My summer has a bunch of weddings on the books and I’ve been eyeing this pair of pearl-strap shoes. It’s a fun way to work that trend in! - D

  • I can’t stop with the straw bags and this ladylike version with a top handle and strap is so cute! -E

  • Ordering a few more things from the Sephora sale while it’s still going on-my favorite mascara, this new to me multipurpose cream stick, and some hand cream with SPF to keep in the car. -E

  • The Mille dress in the cover photo is such a great cut-I tried it on in a couple of different patterns and they were all easy and flattering. If you’re in Annapolis, I would definitely visit Shoppe Details and Design to try them on, but they also have a website! -E

What We’re Making

  • We tried this super simple chicken fajita recipe where everything cooks in one skillet. Super simple but yummy for a night when you don’t have a lot of time. -E

  • Eloise talked about her salmon adventures last week, and we have also been trying to cook with it more, especially since one of my clients ships salmon directly to your home and I was lucky enough to get a box recently. We decided to try cooking in the air fryer, which was so easy, not at all messy and yummy! We just added olive oil and a dry rub and put it in for 10 minutes at 400. - D
