Live Like a Royal: Kate's Wardrobe Repeats
One of the things I love about Royal Fashion is when you spot a repeat item. The royals have to balance keeping their wardrobes current and supporting the economy with fashion choices (just Google “the Kate effect”) with appearing to have some moderation to appease the taxpayers and press. This has lead to certain items from favorite brands being repeated across years, private lives and public engagements. It also is an incredible source of inspiration for investment pieces and classic British brands. I honestly started this post with the intention of sharing repeats from several royals, but Kate has so many that I am going to focus just on her this month, and tackle other royals throughout the year!
Penelope Chilvers boots
Kate has been wearing these since long before she was a royal ( I love the photo of her with the promotional t-shirt on and the very 2000’s sunglasses), and has continued to rock them on her more casual or outdoorsy royal engagements and tour appearances. They are the perfect blend of rugged and polished, plus the shade of leather goes perfectly with a wide range of neutrals.
Supergas
I love a white sneaker moment, and Kate has really embraced the trend, first wearing her Superga 2750 COTU Trainers in 2016 on a royal tour of Canada. They are definitely one of her go-to casual shoes and she has worn them at sailing events, The Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show, and to meet mothers and children during the pandemic. This is one of her style choices that feels very “mum in the school pickup line” to me and I love the range of ways she has styled them
Castaner Wedges
The Duchess sure does love a wedge, and has been seen in several different brands over the years. She owns several different pairs of the Castaner wedges, one with ankle ties and one with a shorter heel The nude shoes pair perfectly with her huge selection of midi-length dresses and are also comfortable for more active engagements. These are far from Kate’s only wedges - a few years ago she went in really hard on the trend and we have been seeing several of those pairs repeat since. They are perfect shoes to take a dress down a level of formality, do anything involving walking on grass, and giving her outfits a more summery feeling.
Barbour Defence Jacket
Kate owns a few Barbour jackets, but she has been wearing the Defence style the most in recent years, and has been spotted in it since 2012. Her work has a big emphasis on the importance of the outdoors, especially for childhood development. The striped scarf she is wearing is from Scouting UK, which she was recently named Co-President of. She also frequently supports farming and agricultural businesses, and this jacket is one of her go-tos for those more rural visits.
Alexander McQueen Coat Dress
This coat dress is a Kate classic - one that she has in several colors! She has worn it in white, pale yellow and pale blue. She first debuted it at Charlotte’s christening, a very appropriate moment for a new look, and has since worn it at several occasions where she doesn’t want her fashion to be the focus, but needs to look a certain level of appropriate, like Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Monica Vinader Siren Earrings
There are very few items that Kate wears as much as she wears these green earrings. She wears them at formal events with coat dresses, to the Chelsea Flower Show, visiting farms, doing running races in gyms with kids. When she has a visit to Ireland or a St. Patrick’s Day parade to attend, these are often in the rotation, but she also uses them to add a pop of color to more neutral outfits.
